The carta porte is the tax complement that must accompany the movement of goods across Mexican territory. It is attached to the digital tax receipt and documents what is moving, who is moving it, from where and to where, with the route and the carrier’s details.

How it works
Whoever transports the goods issues the receipt with the carta porte complement and carries it for the whole journey. It applies across transport modes within Mexico, and the information must match the operation it covers: goods, quantities, origin, destination and responsible parties. The data comes from your customs entry and shipping file, so an error upstream propagates all the way here.
Why it matters when importing into Mexico
On the leg from the port to your warehouse, right when the cargo has already crossed the Pacific and only the last stretch remains. A movement without a carta porte, or with inconsistent data, is a tax and operational exposure on the road, and it can stop the truck with your goods inside.
The common mistake
Assuming it is handled because “the carrier issues it”. Responsibility is shared, and the data the carrier loads comes from the information you provide. It is worth reviewing before the truck leaves, not after it has been pulled over.
